How To Change The Upper Spray Arm On Your Dishwasher?

Today I want to show you how to change the center spray arm on your dishwasher, here are a few symptoms that will tell you that your spray arm is bad:

  • If you notice that the upper spray arm is not rotating
  • If you notice that your dishwasher is not properly cleaning your dishes

For this particular example we will be using a Frigidaire manufactured brand such as a Tappan, Kelvinator, Gibson, Westinghouse or White-Westinghouse.  The good news about this type of service repair is that you do not need any tools to complete the job.  So let’s get right into it, this will probably one of the easiest appliance repair that you will come across.

A quick guide to help you repair your dishwasher spray arm:

  1. Open the door of the machine then take out the upper rack
  2. Install the new arm
  3. Look for the opening on the top or bottom

The first thing you will want to do is to open the door of the machine, then go ahead and take out the upper rack, to remove them you will need to take off the rack stops, you will see a little clip located on the bottom, all you have to do is to pull it in a downward motion to unlatch it and then you will want to pull the rack stop upwards through the rails, you will need to do this for both sides of the unit.

Go ahead and put the rack stops aside and now you can remove the upper rack by sliding it out and then put that aside, now so that the rails are out of your way, you should go ahead and push those back in.  To remove the upper spray arm you will need to remove the large nut that is holding it in place, to remove it you will need to turn the nut in a counter clockwise direction and this will unscrew it from the inlet tube that it is connected to.

Once you have taken the arm off, it is time to now install the new arm, you are going to basically install this in the same manner you removed the old one, but first you need to make sure that the inlet tube is facing down from the tub ceiling by about a ¼ of an inch.  Be careful not to push the inlet tube up to get it out of the way.  Now you can line up the nut and screw it back on in a clockwise direction and tighten it firmly.  It needs to be snug, if not this could cause leaks and it’s normal to see about an 8 of an inch space between the nut and the top of the tub.  Now it is time to put the racks back in, so go ahead and slide the rails out and start the installation by putting one wheel on one side and then you can do the other end of the rack, now push the rack all the way to the back firmly.  You just need to get the rail out, just enough to where you can install the rack stops.

Look for the opening on the top or bottom and then slide it down through this and to snap it in place you will need to reach inside of the rail.  That’s it folks, you didn’t even break a sweat on this one. Talk to you soon and click here  for more information.
